How far forward will the engine be?
The car pictured is a street car and the engine is as far forward as it can be without having to cut into the factory center console. The frame allows about an inch of adjust-ability front to back. Note here the use of Pound Design Automotive right angle water port adapters.
Why do I need a strong subframe?
In a mid engine car with the engine directly coupled to the transaxle the loads on the engine mounts are very different than they are in a front engine car. In the mid engine case the engine mounts are directly resisting the force created by the output shafts from the transaxle. For the example of an engine with 500ft lbs output, the mounts could see over 3000 lbs of lift in first gear if the tires were ever to stick. The Pound Design Automotive subframe is designed to support 3000lbs of lift with less than 3/32" of flex.
